I only take 2 students. We start at 9.15am  until 1.pm for the half day sessions on our Gallery in Leigh. All times are approximate.

Booking.  I will take bookings in advance, on payment of 50% of the course fee of £60. This can be made by telephone via our card machine or by cheque. If the booking is cancelled up until the day before the workshop the deposit will be refunded. If the workshop is cancelled through illness or bad weather we can move to another date.

Whatever camera you own
On my half day photographic workshops I take a maximum of two students. The courses are suitable for a beginner with a new camera who wishes to learn what the settings on the camera are for and how to use those settings to take better pictures or an advanced amateur who wishes to improve their photography.
Bring to the course, camera and lenses together with download cable if available, a fully charged camera battery and if possible a clear memory card.   Don’t forget warm clothes and sensible shoes.  The courses are weather dependent and subject to change of date.
Course Aims:-  To discuss and understand the following:-
Know your camera.  What all those settings on your camera are for.

  1. ISO,  Shutter Priority and Aperture Priority and when you would use them instead of automatic setting.
  2. Depth of Field.
  3. Metering
  4. Composition
  5. Use of Flash and light
  6. Megapixals and Memory Cards

Personal tuition by Ian James on all aspects with film or Shutter priority, aperture priority and the reason for using over automatic mode digital, compact, bridge or single lens reflex  camera from beginners to advanced amateurs.
The half day courses are held at the Estuary Gallery  in  Leigh-on-Sea along the Essex coast where Ian has lived and worked as a photographer for the last 40 years. Between 1990 and 2005 Ian taught City and Guilds Photographic modules at various adult education centres in Essex and since 2010 he has run the very successful  photographic workshops by passing on his wealth of knowledge gained by a lifetimes work with cameras.

Estuary Gallery  location and parking
The Gallery is situated at Leigh Marina, approx 300 metres to the East of Leigh Railway Station, Leigh-on-Sea,SS9 2ES. ( turn right through the Marina gates by the first large shed and the Gallery is situated on the right hand side up a set of steps)  or ask for Ian James. Parking is not available in the Marina unless you are choosing or collecting work. However there is a car park opposite Leigh tip and skateboard park approx 5 mins walk to the barge. It is free after 10am Monday to Friday and £1 on weekends.
